For many years, well as long as the world wide web has been around, we have had clients who have a website, domain name, brochures, logos, presentations etc. the list goes on — who do not have ownership of these properties or do not have full control of them.

When asked for these assets the companies that originally created the asset (logo, website, brochure etc.) tell them they cannot have them unless they pay a fee or they were destroyed and the client has to get them re-created for a fee.

Sometimes they cannot move their website to another hosting company or have to pay another fee for that.

You should have full control of all your digital assets.

I have had companies that do not have copies of their original logo and if they do it is low resolution, and multiple times we have had to redo them. Or they do not know where their website is hosted or where they got their domain name registered and even sometimes their domain name has expired and ends up costing them a fair bit to get it back.

It is not unusual at all.
